This is where you’ll find clear answers to the most common questions about using Cats.ie — from creating an account and posting your first ad to managing listings and staying safe.
Our goal is to make your experience easy, transparent, and worry-free — because your time is better spent cuddling cats, not troubleshooting websites.

Getting Started

How do I create an account?

Click “Sign Up” at the top of the site, choose your role (Private Seller, Breeder, Rescue, or
Service Provider), and verify your email and phone. Once you’re verified, you can post listings, comment on blogs, or enter giveaways.

What account type should I choose?

Private Seller

  • For: Cat owners rehoming or selling

  • Key Features: Post up to 3 ads, nickname option, secure contact form

Breeder

  • For: Registered catteries or hobby breeders

  • Key Features: Unlimited listings with subscription, pedigree options

Rescue

  • For: Charities / shelters

  • Key Features: Free adoption ads, public contact required

Service Provider

  • For: Vets, groomers, sitters, etc.

  • Key Features: Directory listings, map visibility, optional upgrades

If you’re unsure, start as a Private Seller — you can upgrade anytime.

Is Cats.ie only for the Republic of Ireland?

Cats.ie is for the whole island of Ireland — including both the Republic of Ireland and Northern
Ireland. All counties are listed in dropdown menus across forms.

Posting Listings

How do I post an ad?

Go to Post an Ad and follow the 6-step guide. Listings are reviewed for compliance before going live.

Are listings free?

Yes — until 1 January 2026, all Curious Cat listings are free.
Paid upgrades (Featured, Premium, Boost) are available immediately for extra visibility

How long do listings stay live?

Each ad runs for 30 days. You can renew or boost it anytime from your dashboard.

Can I edit or pause my ad?

Yes. You can edit, pause, or delete any ad in your account dashboard at any time.

Why was my ad rejected?

Ads may be paused or rejected if:
• The cat appears too young (under 8 weeks).
• Missing or incorrect health info.
• Photos don’t match the description.
• The listing breaks welfare or advertising rules.
You’ll receive an email explaining why, with an option to fix and resubmit.

How do I upload videos?

You can either:
• Paste a YouTube/Vimeo link, or
• Upload directly (max 100MB).
The upload process is optimised to be quick and mobile-friendly

Account & Payments

How do payments work?

Cats.ie uses Stripe and PayPal (via WooCommerce).
We never store card details ourselves. Refunds are automatic if your ad is declined during moderation.

What’s the Breeder Subscription?

Breeders can pay €14.99/month for unlimited standard listings, with discounted upgrades
(Featured, Premium, Boost).
Subscriptions renew automatically but can be cancelled anytime.

Will I be charged VAT?

No — Cats.ie is operated by MEOWOOF LIMITED, which is not in the VAT system.
All prices shown are final.

Animal Welfare & Rules

How old must kittens be before rehoming or sale?

Kittens must be at least 8 weeks old before leaving their mother.
Cats.ie will automatically block listings with younger DOBs.

What health info is required?

cat or kitten listing must clearly state:
• Vaccination status
• Neutering/spaying
• Testing (e.g., FIV/FeLV, if applicable)
• Microchip number (optional but encouraged)

Are breeders required to be registered?

Breeders selling 6 or more pets per year must register as a Registered Seller of Pets with the
Department of Agriculture (DAFM). Cats.ie encourages all breeders to declare their registration and organisation affiliation (TICA, GCCFI, GCCF, FIFe, WCF).

Can I offer an animal as a prize or giveaway?

No. It’s against Irish welfare rules and Cats.ie’s terms. Only Cats.ie-approved charity or educational campaigns may feature cats in promotions.

Lost & Found – CatAlert

How does CatAlert work?

Go to CatAlert → “Post Lost” or “Post Found.” Add details, upload photos, and share across social media or print a poster. CatAlert listings are always free and last for 30 days.

Can I update the status?

Yes — log in and mark it as:
• Still Missing
• Found
• Reunited
Your alert will update sitewide automatically.

Safety & Scams

How can I stay safe when buying or adopting?

ways meet in person or via video call before payment.
• Never send deposits without seeing the cat.
• Avoid sellers who rush you or refuse visits.
• Use Cats.ie’s internal messaging for first contact.

What if I suspect a fake or abusive ad?

Click the “Report this Ad” button on any listing. Our team reviews every report manually. You can also email report@cats.ie for urgent issues.
