Our Shared Responsibility

At Cats.ie, we believe every cat deserves safety, care, and respect. Sometimes, however, users may come across a listing or post that seems wrong — perhaps an animal is too young, information looks misleading, or the situation simply feels “off.” This page explains how you can report a concern safely, responsibly, and in confidence.

If You’re Worried About an Advertisement

If you believe a listing on Cats.ie breaches our rules, Irish Animal Welfare law, or IPAAG advertising standards:

  • Click the “Report This Ad” button under the listing.
  • Choose a reason (e.g. Underage kitten, Incorrect information, Suspected scam, Poor welfare).
  • Add any comments or evidence you have (e.g. screenshots, description).

Our moderators review all reports within 48 hours. If the concern is valid, the ad may be:

  • Temporarily suspended for verification, or
  • Removed if it violates legal or welfare standards.

If You Suspect Animal Neglect or Abuse

Cats.ie takes welfare reports seriously, but we are not a law-enforcement agency. If you believe an animal is in danger or suffering, please act immediately:

  • Contact your local SPCA, ISPCA, or Gardaí if urgent.
  • You can also email report@cats.ie with the ad link, screenshots, or description.

We will review the material and, if appropriate, share information with welfare authorities for investigation.

If You Suspect a Scam or Fraud

Protect yourself and others by reporting:

  • Suspicious payment requests
  • Unusual transport offers
  • Sellers refusing visits or video calls
  • Ads copied from other websites

Use the Report This Ad button or email report@cats.ie. Our team may block or permanently remove accounts proven to engage in scams.

How We Handle Reports

  • Acknowledgement – You’ll receive an automatic confirmation email when your report is submitted.
  • Review – A moderator assesses your report within 48 hours
  • Action – The listing may be paused, removed, or verified with the advertiser.
  • Escalation – Serious welfare matters may be forwarded to an appropriate rescue organisation or authority.
  • Outcome Notice – You’ll be informed of the action taken when possible (while respecting privacy laws).

Confidentiality and Data Protection

  • Reports are reviewed confidentially by authorised Cats.ie staff only.
  • Your contact details are never shared externally unless required by law.
  • All reports are processed in accordance with GDPR and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018.

False or Malicious Reporting

We encourage responsible reporting made in good faith.
However, false or malicious submissions intended to harass or harm others will result in
account suspension and possible legal action.
